From descriptions provided and consultation with school management and your assessment of the site, determine of location of sub-boards, pillar boxes, underground cable routes and earthing system locations.

In locations where the ground prohibits penetrating earth electrodes to a depth of 1.2m, an alternative copper strip electrode method is to be installed. This method uses 25mm sq bare copper cable buried in a horizontal trench laid at a depth of 0.3-0.5m cover with a minimum horizontal length of 3m.

Contractors will need to modest provision some cable stock (most often not used and kept for future works)

Upload images of each earthing system of the strip installation with depth shown (measuring tape in shot).
Upload of continuity test results for each earthing system.
Add comments describing the alternative method (strip) used.

1. Wiring to be laid underground based on the dimensions specified in Table 3.6 (AS/NZS 3000). If poured concrete of 75 mm on top then minimum 300mm depth of cover, if no surface covering then minimum 500mm depth of cover.
2. Wiring systems installed underground shall be identified by an orange marker tape (at approximately 50% of the depth of cover above the wiring system)
3. Wiring to be laid in heavy duty underground conduit (Cat A) or if medium duty conduit is used then mechanical protection is required on top of conduit (Cat B). Laying insulated and sheathed cables directly in the ground is not permitted.
5.The conduits joints to be properly glued to restrict any water entry into wiring.
4. Caution tape laid 200mm below the surface.
7. Underground cables rising vertically up to the building has been installed in medium duty conduit (UV stabilised) with an additional mechanical protection. Mechanical protection is: 32mm x 1.5mm galvanised pipe - the first 100mm of the pipe should be in the ground, then 1700mm saddled to the wall (with conduit inside).

NOTE: Trench Depth: Where standard depths (500mm with no surface covering or 300mm with 75mm concrete) cannot be achieved due to bedrock or reality of providing concrete, a minimum cover depth of 300mm will be acceptable provided the polymeric cable cover is used. Contractors to carry a 25m roll to site as contingency and kept for future job when not used. If larger need required, consult the QC inspector. When used upload image of polymeric cover and caution tape.

Report this to QC-Ready when all reticulation is completed.
Add to comments: 'All works meet the listed requirements.
Upload an image to show type of conduit used at the site (conduit markings shown).
Upload images of two of the trenches to show caution tape laid 200mm below the surface .
IF ideal depth was not achieved, provide detailed notes about the works required, including locations on a site sketch were depths was not achieved - take a picture of the sketch and upload it.

In most cases, if old reticulation exists the trench routes are likely to be similar for the new cabling, therefore where practical follow the historical trenching to lay the new cable - that will make your job easier.

When following the trenches please remove the old wiring.

Waste is an important issue for ITF and where possible we avoid adding to the waste load in the communities. The policy for removal of existing small solar is evolving with stakeholders. At present the policy is as follows. Should there be any changes that make a material difference to your costs we agree on a contract variation.

Removal of small solar system equipment (panels, PCE, batteries etc) is the responsibility of the solar contractors.

Unless otherwise instructed (please check individual school instructions in the exhibits):

IF the old system/s has failed:

Disconnect the system and leave in a safe state.
Remove all wiring, switches, GPOs and sub boards. Includes removing wiring to/from PCE at point of entry/exit; and remove wiring to the panels (leave panel cables intact for reuse). This will make your wiring work easier and neater. Leave the panels, PCE and batteries in place.

In quarters:
IF the small system is functioning (providing reliable power for at least the day time), leave wiring in place and add new wiring beside it (solar contractors will remove the solar later).
IF a system has clearly failed remove wiring and PCE and leave in appropriate place agreed with school for removal by solar contractors.

In classrooms and other school buildings: Remove all the old wiring. Assure teachers that reliable 24 hour power will be connected soon.

In the office or staff rooms: If the small solar is viable and being used, leave the wiring in place and install new beside it.

Should there be disputes - contact ITF office.manager@itstime.org.au and we will resolve with the school.

REPORTING:
Add brief accurate notes for each building for example: Q1: cables and PCE removed; Hostel 2: system is delivering good power so left in place; etc
NOTE - please be accurate - there will be random physical site checks by inspectors to confirm details provided in all QC items. less

Waste is an important issue for ITF and where possible we avoid adding to the waste load in the communities - as much as is practical waste will be removed from site for reuse, recycling or best practice disposal.

REPORTING:
At the completion of the job please indicate the number of the following removed from site. (No need to exact measure the meters of cable removed, but a reasonable estimate is required):
- Light fittings
- GPOs and switches
- Main boards and sub boards
- Pillar boxes
- Approximate total length (m) of cable removed (get a close estimate without laying out the cable and exactly measuring it)
The following are usually the responsibility of the solar contractor, but enter if needed:
- Number of batteries (excluding small device batteries)
- Approximate kgs of batteries
- Solar panels
- PCE units
Any revenue from reuse or recycled material is retained by the contractor - this does not require reporting.

Indicate where the waste is to be recycled or disposed of.

1. All electrical wiring works have been verified and tested in accordance with section 8 of AS/NZS 3000.
2. A visual inspection has been done once work on general electrical installation was completed. As a minimum, the following visual checks have been done: visual inspection of all equipment installed at site, protection devices installed properly, pillar boxes installed properly, wiring system mechanical protection installed (where required), adequate support and fixing of the wiring system, no wiring or insulation damages, all connections properly terminated, no loose or hanging cables, conduits properly glued, weather-sealing (using sealants), verification of cables sizes to meet CCC and voltage drop requirements, earthing system checks (proper earthing, MEN connection, earth clip, etc), proper labelling done on sub-board and sub-circuits, etc.
3. The following tests have been done:
a. Continuity of the earthing system (measure earth resistance of the main earthing conductor, protective earthing conductors and bonding conductors)
b. Insulation resistance testing of circuits if testing equipment available on-site (testing at 500V DC and insulation resistance shall be greater than 1M ohm)
c. Polarity test (testing that active conductor connects active terminal, neutral conductor connects neutral terminal and earth conductor connects earth terminal).
d. Operation of RCDs/ELCBs - energise the the circuits with a generator (It is preferable the contractor brings a generator - if not use the school generator or otherwise supplied by the community at your arrangement with the school).
e. Using the generator, test all installed equipment.

The contractor is welcome to provide a branding sticker no larger than 150mm x 100mm (if you have a printed version already that exceeds this provide it to us for assessment - small variances will be considered). Email the office manager office.manager@itstime.org.au for delivery instructions. When the Main Board is installed we will adhere it the bottom right of the cabinet and provide you with an image (because it is likely that the Main Board will not be installed until after general electrical contractor has moved on).
No stickers are to be put on inverters or batteries (ITF will put large stickers there indicating contact, maintenance procedures and detailed instructions of the school's responsibilities to care for the system).
Note you are welcome to share the story on social media etc. but you must mention it is an Its Time Foundation and you are a chosen delivery partner.

In most situations, the school and community will have been invited to provide accommodation and meals FOC to the contracting staff. We suggest take some back up provisions. The school and community 'may be' able to assist with travel, accommodation and some labour, BUT there must be fair payment for the services. It is not acceptable that their enthusiasm for the opportunity is exploited. ITF is available to give advice regarding travel etc. as we have surveyed and have developed relationships with the schools, boat captains etc.
This can be made done during the project.
